More Case Studies

Success stories in the Case Study database were obtained from a variety of sources, including the sites shown below:

  • The BestPractices Program has compiled several case studies of steam system improvements, spanning a variety of industries and regions.
  • Plant Wide Assessments, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, often uncover opportunities for steam system savings. A case study report is created for each assessment.
  • CADDET (Centre for the Analysis and Dissemination of Demonstrated Energy Technologies) hosts Infostore, a database of over 2200 energy efficiency and renewable energy demonstration and results projects. The database is searchable by keyword (such as "steam"), country, and sector.
  • Trane publishes case studies regarding efficiency improvements to indoor comfort systems.
  • Enbridge Gas Distribution maintains a list of case studies for natural gas efficiency upgrades, cogeneration, and monitoring and targeting.

Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Database

The Cooling, Heating, and Power for Buildings website hosts an online database of combined heat and power (CHP) cogeneration systems installed in the United States. Over 200 cogeneration systems are recorded in the database, which can be sorted by state, city, building type, generation type, generation capacity, and thermal recovery system type. Several of these records include links to publications regarding the project, such as site summaries, fact sheets, case studies, and reports.

The Industrial Assessment Center Database

Over 85,000 recommendations are compiled in the Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) database, which is searchable by recommendation, industry, geographic region, and other keywords. To see a list of all steam-related recommendations made by the IAC, go to the Assessment Recommendation Index and type "steam" as the keyword. This produces a table of nearly forty different recommendations, which includes the number of times each recommendation has been made, the percent of recommendations that have been implemented, and the average payback for each recommendation.
